We're hiring a General Maintenance Worker to join our maintenance team at the Chances Prince Rupert Casino.

Reporting to the Security and Facility manager, the General Maintenance Worker inspect and maintains the general upkeep of the casino facility. You will address immediate operational and/or safety concerns while reporting major repairs to management and are the jack of all trades with the knowledge and skills to complete minor repairs across various trades including, but not limited to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Your responsibilities would include inspecting and maintaining the property, including the grounds, maintaining a schedule for tasks, coordinating maintenance work orders, and notifying management regarding the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems. As such we're looking for someone with a working knowledge of the systems you're expected to maintain and who has about 3 years of experience working with low and/or medium voltage equipment and 3-5 years of experience with casino and/or hotel resort operations.

You will need an advanced understanding of our emergency procedures, and because of this and the independent nature of the work, we're looking for someone with the ability to work independently, use good judgment, and prioritize with little direction as well as work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

You'll also need to be able to read and understand blueprints and equipment specs and ensure all manufacturer requirements are met and installations and repairs meet the necessary codes and environmental protection standards. As such you'll need to be able to perform well under pressure and have excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

As we are a casino, you'll need to be 19 years or older to work for us and all staff are required to pass a criminal record and credit check through the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB). We also look for Appropriate Response Training Level 1. We look for employees who can responsibly handle confidential information as well and who will not be bothered working in the casino environment, which involves flashing lights, loud noises, and dim lighting.

There is a physical component to this position, so all candidates must be capable of heavy physical labour and long periods of standing and walking as well as bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, twisting, and gripping items on a consistent basis.

Duties

  • Inspect and maintain the property
  • Maintain a schedule for tasks and duties
  • Coordinate maintenance work orders and ensures completion of project
  • Maintain grounds including trimming, pruning, lawn care
  • Make adjustments and minor repairs to lighting, heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Notify management concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
  • Work with power ranging from low to medium voltages; operating them safely and efficiently
  • Read and understand blueprints, including understanding the specifications for all fixtures and furniture.
  • Maintain all work areas and ensures equipment is free of safety violations. Reports any hazardous conditions or broken equipment immediately to management
  • Ensure all requirements as specified by the manufacturer of systems and fixtures are met
  • Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet the requirements of the appropriate codes
  • Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet. environmental protection standards
  • Inventory all equipment and parts to ensure par levels are met
  • Have an advanced understanding of emergency procedures
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of casino rules and regulations, including OHS safety rules
  • Climb ladders to access elevated areas such as ceilings
  • Perform all other job related duties as requested.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Must be 19+
  • Appropriate Response Training Level 1
  • The ability to successfully complete a criminal record and credit check through the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB)
  • 3-5 years of experience with casino and/or hotel resort operations or related field
  • 3 years of experience working with low and/or medium voltage equipment
  • Working knowledge of related tools and equipment
  • Ability to work days, evenings, weekend, and holidays
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to perform well under pressure
  • Experience managing highly confidential information with discretion and care
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, uses good judgment, and prioritizes with little direction

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to use physical exertion to push, pull, and lift boxes filled with currency on a consistent basis
  • Perform heavy manual labor
  • Ability to use physical exertion to push and pull carts on a consistent basis
  • Ability to stand and walk for all periods of time on a consistent basis
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist and grip items on a consistent basis

Working Conditions:

  • Loud noise, including but not limited to music, power tools, generators, announcements and slot game play
  • Dim lighting with bright flashing lights
