Gitxaała Nation
Gitxaała (Pronounced Git-Gath-La) Territories Stretch from the Nass River to Aristazabel Island, on the North Coast of what is Now British Columbia.
The Gitxaała, also known as Git Lax M’oon, People of the Saltwater are one of the most ancient societies on the coast. The village of Lax Klan (pronounced LUCK-CLAN) has been continuously inhabited since time immemorial. Gitxaała hereditary leaders from the four clans, Gisputwada, Ganhada, Lax’sgiik and Laxgibuu, manage and protect their territories and resources according to their ayaawx, traditional laws. Gitxaała harvesters rely on a 100 different marine and terrestrial resources to feed their community. The people of Gitxaala have been navigating these waters for millenniums and have extensive knowledge of the rugged coast and the balance needed to live on it. Gitxaała people, wherever they reside, celebrate their history, practice their traditions, respect their laws, and cherish their lands, waters, and resources.

Gitxaała has an integrated governance system with both an Elected Council and Hereditary Table.
The Elected Council governs the administration of the Nation’s programs and services such as Housing, Public Works and Health. The Hereditary Table provides the Elected Council with their mandate regarding issues relating to Gitxaała rights and title and makes decisions regarding Gitxaała territory and resources.

Gitxaała is a sovereign nation. Gitxaała will retain its Territory, Natural Resources Land, Air and Water. Gitxaała is self-governing, self-sustaining and inclusive of all its citizens.

Gitxaała Nation exists to provide for the good governance, health, well-being, economic opportunity, and common good for the citizens of the Gitxaała Nation: through policy making, legislation, finance, planning, development, evaluations, and encouragement of cooperative working relationships among various other First Nations, organizations, agencies, and government levels.
