Kitchen Helper

We are hiring a dedicated Kitchen Helper at the Crest Hotel in Prince Rupert, BC to join our culinary team.

The Kitchen Helper maintains cleanliness and sanitation across all kitchen operations, including dishware, glassware, cookware, equipment, and workstations. This role supports kitchen production through receiving, stocking, waste management, and general upkeep of kitchen and back-of-house areas.

Responsibilities include operating the dish washing machine and hand-washing items to sanitation standards as well as maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the dish area, kitchen floors, and back-of-house spaces. The successful candidate will need the ability to work at a steady, consistent pace in a fast-moving environment and have excellent attention to cleanliness and sanitation standards.

Receiving, unpacking, and storing deliveries following safe food handling and storage procedures; supporting waste management including sorting, removal, and recycling according to hotel standards; and restocking clean dishware, glassware, and utensils to kitchen and service areas as needed are all part of the Kitchen Helper's responsibilities as well.

The Kitchen Helper will also assist with basic food preparation tasks as directed by culinary leadership, following all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures. As such, a willingness to take direction, learn procedures, and support the team is very important for this role.

This position includes lots of standing and walking as part of your role as our kitchen helper will include bussing tables and clearing dining areas during service hours, washing dishes and kitchen equipment, as well as assisting with food preparation tasks such as peeling, kitchen, chopping, and assembling ingredients. As such you'll need to be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, including bus tubs, supply cases, and equipment. The ability to work in a hot, humid environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals and commercial kitchen equipment is also a requirement.

This role pays $20.82 per hour and is a full-time role with 40 hours of work available each week. You'll need to flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including some days, evenings, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
