Kitchen Helper

We are hiring a dedicated Kitchen Helper at the Crest Hotel in Prince Rupert, BC to join our culinary team.

The Kitchen Helper maintains cleanliness and sanitation across all kitchen operations, including dishware, glassware, cookware, equipment, and workstations. This role supports kitchen production through receiving, stocking, waste management, and general upkeep of kitchen and back-of-house areas.

Responsibilities include operating the dishwashing machine and hand-washing items to sanitation standards as well as maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the dish area, kitchen floors, and back-of-house spaces. The successful candidate will need the ability to work at a steady, consistent pace in a fast-moving environment and have excellent attention to cleanliness and sanitation standards.

Additional responsibilities include receiving, unpacking, and storing deliveries according to safe food handling and storage procedures; supporting waste management through sorting, removal, and recycling; and restocking clean dishware, glassware, and utensils throughout the kitchen and service areas.

The Kitchen Helper will also assist with basic food preparation tasks as directed by culinary leadership, following all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures. As such, a willingness to take direction, learn procedures, and support the team is very important for this role.

This position is physically demanding and involves standing and walking for extended periods. Responsibilities also include bussing tables, clearing dining areas during service, washing dishes and kitchen equipment, and assisting with basic food preparation tasks such as peeling, chopping, and assembling ingredients. As such, you'll need to be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, including bus tubs, supply cases, and equipment. The ability to work in a hot, humid environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals and commercial kitchen equipment is also a requirement.

This is a full-time position paying $20.82 per hour with approximately 40 hours of work available each week. You'll need the flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including some days, evenings, weekends, and holidays if necessary. This role is suitable for entry-level candidates interested in kitchen and restaurant work.
