Description
The Crest Hotel in Prince Rupert, BC is hiring two Maintenance Workers to join our team.
As a Maintenance Worker, you’ll help keep the hotel safe, comfortable, and in good working order. You’ll work on a variety of tasks throughout the hotel, from routine maintenance and minor repairs to checking equipment and helping keep our grounds looking their best.
You’ll work closely with the Maintenance Manager and other hotel departments. You’ll respond to maintenance requests, complete assigned work orders, and report larger repairs or safety concerns when they need additional attention.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys fixing things, solving problems, and working with different tools and equipment. You should be comfortable managing your own tasks while knowing when to ask for help or bring an issue to management.
Experience in hotel, resort, casino, building, or facilities maintenance is preferred. Relevant training or education is also an asset.
This is a full-time position offering approximately 40 hours per week at $23.80 per hour. The schedule may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Duties
- Inspect and maintain the hotel property, building systems, equipment, and grounds according to established schedules.
- Complete preventative maintenance, minor repairs, troubleshooting, and adjustments to lighting, heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Work safely with low- and medium-voltage electrical systems within the scope of training, authorization, and applicable requirements.
- Coordinate maintenance work orders and follow up to ensure completion.
- Maintain hotel grounds, including trimming, pruning, lawn care, and general outdoor upkeep.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and manufacturer instructions.
- Report major repairs, replacements, upgrades, hazardous conditions, and safety concerns to management.
- Ensure installations, repairs, and maintenance meet manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and environmental protection standards.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, work orders, and completed maintenance tasks.
- Inventory tools, equipment, and parts to ensure required stock levels are maintained.
- Keep maintenance areas organized and ensure tools and equipment are safe, functional, and free of hazards.
- Follow hotel policies, casino rules and regulations, emergency procedures, occupational health and safety requirements, and applicable union requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information or working in restricted areas.
- Assist with other maintenance and operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications

- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in hotels, resorts, casinos, and commercial buildings
- Approximately three years of experience working with low- and/or medium-voltage equipment.
- Working knowledge of building maintenance tools, equipment, and systems.
- Knowledge of heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues, identify safety concerns, and determine when a repair should be referred to management or a qualified contractor.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints, equipment specifications, manufacturer instructions, and maintenance procedures.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize work orders and respond to urgent maintenance requests.
- Ability to communicate clearly with the Maintenance Manager and other hotel departments about repairs, work orders, safety concerns, and equipment issues.
- Ability to follow safety procedures, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and environmental standards.
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and inventory of tools, equipment, and parts.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion when working in restricted areas.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Education
- There are no formal education requirements for this position.
- A certificate, diploma, apprenticeship, or other training in Building Maintenance, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Mechanical Trades, Facilities Maintenance, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Relevant experience, technical knowledge, and demonstrated skills will also be considered.
